چکیده

The purpose of this preliminary investigation was to compare the genotoxic effect of fluoride in human individuals directly exposed to high concentrations of drinking water fluoride (1.95 to 2.2 ppm) with those in individuals exposed to concentrations (0.6 to 1.0 ppm) within the WHO permissible limit. Sister chromatid exchanges (SCE) and cell cycle proliferative index were studied in whole-blood cultures of fluorotic individuals and compared with normal controls of age-matched groups. The results suggest that the SCE rate in persons exposed to fluoride in the endemic (1.95-2.2 ppm) areas of North Gujarat is significantly higher than that of those living in Ahmedabad (0.6-1.0 ppm). There is no significant difference in the cell cycle proliferative index. Further inves tigations are needed to confirm the findings.

G2 chromosomal radiosensitivity and background frequency of sister chromatid exchanges of peripheral blood lymphocytes of breast cancer patients

Background: Chromosomal alterations play an important role in carcinogenesis. Enhanced chromosomal radiosensitivity is shown for many cancer predisposition conditions including breast cancer. In this study chromosomal radiosensitivity and the frequency of background sister chromnatid exchanges (SCE) in lymphocytes of normal individuals and breast cancer patients was compared. Materials...

Sister chromatid exchange analysis in some Holstein bulls

Chromosomal appearance of 12 Holstein bulls selected for artificial inseminations were examined bysister chromatid exchanges (SCEs). For differential staining of sister chromatids bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU)was inoculated in lymphocyte cultures. The mean, maximum and minimum number of SCE per cell weredetermined 6.8 ± 1.14, 8.3 ± 1.1 and 5.7 ± 1.5, respectively. SCE frequencies of all animals were...

Sister Chromatid Exchange Frequency and Chromosome Aberrations in Residents of Fluoride Endemic Regions of South Gujarat

Peripheral blood lymphocytes of residents of three villages and one nearby township in South Gujarat with fluoride concentrations in the drinking water of 1.56 3.46 and 0.6 0.8 ppm, respectively, were examined for their frequency of sister chromatid exchanges (SCE) and chromosome aberrations. The rates of SCEs and chromosome aberrations in persons living in one of the endemic villages were sign...

Study of the Effect of MMC on the Sister Chromatid Exchange in the Human Lymphocytes

Some environmental mutagenic agents cause genomic instability and increase susceptibility of DNA damage. One of them is mitomycin C which is connected to DNA as an alkylating factor and affects susceptible cells to reduction reactions. This drug is used in chemotherapy and treatment of tumors. Study of genomic instability in the presence of different concentrations of MMC can show susceptibilit...

Baseline frequency of chromosomal aberrations and sister chromatid exchanges in peripheral blood lymphocytes of healthy individuals living in Turin (North-Western Italy): assessment of the effects of age, sex and GSTs gene polymorphisms on the levels of genomic damage.

BACKGROUND The increased exposure to environmental pollutants has led to the awareness of the necessity for constant monitoring of human populations, especially those living in urban areas. AIM This study evaluated the background levels of genomic damage in a sample of healthy subjects living in the urban area of Turin (Italy). The association between DNA damage with age, sex and GSTs polymor...
